That’s right, according to an e-mail that I received from Netflix Canada, they have heard the Canadian cry about how we have very low bandwidth caps and have somehow adjusted their compression so instead of 30 hours of viewing equalling 32 GB of bandwidth, it will now only use 9 GB of bandwidth. I have not yet had the chance to watch something to see how the quality is but I know when Netflix has auto re-buffered when it detected my wireless Wii connection dropped, the quality of the video was still quite good for viewing.
Well I thought that there would be no more additions to this weekend Wrestlemania 27 event but it appears I was wrong because on Monday Night RAW this week, a 8 man tag match was announced.
This new match will consist of: Big Show, Kane, Santino and Kozlov vs The Core. I don’t know if this match is going to be any good, don’t get me wrong, I’m sure Santino will make everyone laugh but I wonder if this match is going to be more of a filler match lasting only a short time or if we will actually get at least 30 minutes worth of great wrestling.
As for which team I think will win, it will probably be The Core because I wouldn’t be surprised if they end up having some new member show up out of the crowd.
I was reading through some wrestling news on my iPhone and there was an article about Michael Cole making some kind of statement on his Twitter page calling a fellow Smackdown colleague a faggot. Apparently this got a whole bunch of people in the same sex community in an uproar.
I don’t understand how calling someone a name can cause such an uproar with someone or a group of people that they name was not directed towards. It’s like no one has a sense of humour any more not too mention the same sex community forgetting all about the TRUE meanings of the words they now use to describe themselves.
Has everyone forgotten that Gay also means to be happy, fag also means a cigarette and faggot also means a bundle of wood. These are words that have been around for centuries before the same sex community started taking them over as their own. No matter how any of those words are used towards someone else, it is just a word and as the old school ground rhyme goes, stick and stones may break my bones but names will never hurt me.
If you are someone who feels hurtful by a word, then you need to grow up and get some humour in to your life otherwise you will always be a sad sack of crap. Look at me, I am what is known as an Adult Baby, that is someone who uses regression to escape from whatever negative is happening in their life, I do my best to use humour whenever possible even if it means making a joke about myself and my baby side. In fact I encourage anyone who knows that I am an AB to make jokes about it if it will make it easier on them to accept me for who I am.
So to those in the same sex community who get offended when someone calls someone else a faggot or fag or gay, don’t get angry, simply crack a joke back at the one who is doing the name calling. If someone were to call me a faggot, using the word in the sense of implying I prefer the same sex, I would simply reply with a joke like “I prefer headlights over a dip stick”. Ok maybe not the best joke but you get the idea. Trust me, using humour will make everyone laugh and there is no greater medicine in this world than laughter.
I just watched 3 different WWE DVD releases, “True Story of Wrestlemania”, “Bobby The Brain Heenan” and “Big Show: A Giants World”. Here is my short opinion on each of them.
True Story of Wrestlemania
I found this to be a good documentary on Wrestlemania. It has a lot of great information regarding this spectacular yearly event including comments from both retired and current wrestlers. It is a 2 hour long documentary and would be great for both current wrestling fans and may even be of interest to non-wrestling fans. The other DVD’s in the package is a collection of past Wrestlemania matches which may or may not be of interest. Myself, I am never interested in watching old matches, I only care about the documentary itself and therefore wish WWE would release two versions of their DVD’s, one just having the documentary and a higher cost one that includes past matches on extra DVD’s.
Bobby The Brain Heenan
Heenan has always been my most favourite manager and commentator because he is brilliant when using the microphone so to watch this documentary was absolutely wonderful even if the DVD did not include any recent interviews with Heenan. Interviews that did exist were with some WWE Legends as well as Heenan wife and daughter. The documentary talks about Heenan from childhood to WWF to WCW. There is even a short clip from when he was inducted in to the Hall of Fame as well a slight touch on his battle with throat cancer. An all around great documentary. The second DVD includes about 5 or 6 matches, both before and during WWF including the 1992 Royal Rumble where Heenan is constantly cheering on Rick Flair from the commentator desk.
Big Show: A Giants World
I have enjoyed watching Big Show for some time now, even if WWE doesn’t give the big guys like Show too much of push with regards to hold title belts. DVD1 is a 1 hour documentary on Big Show describing his life from childhood to being a car salesman to WCW to WWE. Interviews include Big Show, his wife, cousin as well as current WWE superstars. It also touches on various story lines including the death of Big Show father where Big Boss Man drives away with Big Show father casket in tow. DVD2 is 30 minutes in length which includes more interviews and clips from WCW and WWE. DVD3+4 are just matches.
Overall for all three DVD sets, I would recommend purchasing if you have the money to do so.
With Wrestlemania 27 only 7 days away, I felt it was time to now post my predictions of who will win each match since it is unlikely any new matches will be added.
Match: John Cena vs The Miz
Predicted Winner: The Miz
Reason: The Rock will be at Wrestlemania and with the insults flying back and forth between Cena and The Rock, I suspect that either A) The Rock will cause a distraction to Cena thus causing Miz to win or B) The Rock makes the match Triple Threat in which case Mix will probably step aside and let Rock and Cena beat each other up then when the time is right, come back in and pin one of them.
Match: Undertaker vs Triple H
Predicted Winner: Triple H
Reason: I am hoping for Triple H to win and the Undertaker finally retiring. No it’s not that I hate the Undertaker but that it is now time for that wrestler is retire. Mark Calaway who plays the Undertaker has just turned 46 (March 24) and over the past few years I have noticed that Calaway tends to look as if he is out of breath with in the first 5 minutes of a match starting. Lets also not forget how many injuries he has suffered in recent years. In 2010 alone he suffered 4 injuries putting him on medical leave twice for several months each time. I just hope that when Undertaker Does do his last match, that he goes back to his original scary look with the red hair and grey boot covers and gloves.
Match: Edge vs Alberto Del Rio
Predicted Winner: Alberto Del Rio
Reason: Alberto Del Rio will most likely win because of his personal ring announcer Ricardo and his NXT rookie Big Brodus Clay. You know at least one of them is going to get involved causing major distractions.
Match: Rey Mysterio vs Cody Rhodes
Predicted Winner: Rey Mysterio
Reason: Mysterio has been attacked from behind a lot lately by Rhodes and usually when you see that prior to a big match, the one doing the attacking is usually the one who gets pinned so that is why I have chosen Mysterio to be the winner.
Match: Jerry “The King” Lawler vs Michael Cole
Predicted Winner: Jerry “The King” Lawler
Reason: I am really praying for Lawler to win and beat the living shit out of Cole. I have always found it hard to listen to Cole, the guy just irritates me. When he took over as the Smackdown ring side commentator, I stopped watching the program for almost an entire year, that’s how much I hate this guy. Now that he has become a heal, the hate towards him has only grown so Lawler, do me proud and kick his ass to a pulp.
Match: Randy Orton vs CM Punk
Predicted Winner: CM Punk
Reason: Although I like Orton over Punk, I feel Punk will probably win because Orton has been on a somewhat winning streak lately. He has taken out all the New Nexus guys except for Punk and I would not be surprised if they have someone show up at ringside in support of Punk, either coming down the ramp or out of the fans seating area.
Match: Sheamus vs Daniel Bryan
Predicted Winner: Sheamus
Reason: I would rather Daniel be the winner but for some time now I have been getting the feeling that the WWE might be trying to get rid of Daniel because for some months now, WWE really hasn’t done much with Daniel. We didn’t see him defend the U.S. title as much as other wrestlers, in fact I think the diva title has been defended more over the past 6 months than the U.S. title. The WWE could have really went with the Daniel vs Cole storyline a lot more but I guess Cole was too much of a coward.
Match: John Morrison, Trish Stratus & Snooki vs. Dolph Ziggler & Lay-Cool
Predicted Winner: Dolph Ziggler & Lay-Cool
Reason: Vickie Guerrero. Need I say more?
Firefox v4 was released yesterday which I went ahead and installed on my system which is using Ubuntu Linux 10.10.
I have been using this for a bit now, even tried one of the beta releases a week or two ago and so far I only see two things I would change, those two things are the refresh and home buttons moved back to the left hand side of the browser. I do not like them being over to the far right, most likely because I am use to them being on the left so I’m sure I will get use to it but making changes like that can turn people off the product. An example would be the difference between Vista/Win7, still today many people who come to buy a system want XP because people are afraid to learn the new layout. Even I get frustrated when repairing a Vista/Win7 system because trying to find stuff is much harder.
Other changes is each tab having their own address bar, not sure yet if this is a good/bad change, I’ll need to use this browser more in order for me to say if this change was a good or bad change.
There is no more bottom bar giving you a bit bigger viewing area. For those who depended on the bottom bar to make sure links you hover over are going to a legit site and not some fake site, a small pop-up at the bottom left will appear when hovering over a link and while a website is loading. If you are using an add-on like Measure-it then you will need to go to View -> Toolbars and turn on the “Add-On Bar” (or <Ctrl>/) to get access to those particular add-ons.
Well today I received the download link for my pre-release copy of Oil-Rush due out in June. The game plays amazingly on my system with graphic settings max out using a resolution of 1280×800 windowed mode.
For those curious as to my system configuration, here it is:
- Ubuntu 10.10 w/Kernel Linux 2.6.35-27-generic-pae
- Gnome 2.32.0
- 4GB Memory
- Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 @ 3GHz
- ATI Radeon HD 4850 512MB DDR3 PCI Express x16
- Catalyst Version 11.2 (Driver Packaging Version 8.78.3-100920a-105558C-ATI) with RandR version 1.3
- Dual LG 19″ Wide Monitors at 1440×900 resolution each.
Now like most games, if I change from window mode to full screen I will lose display 1 and display 2 becomes the main and only display resulting in having to do a shut down/restart to get my dual display back. Update 03/05/11: Noticed that the losing of display 1 only seems to happen when launching the windowed mode script then changing to full screen. If I launch using the full screen script with my resolution setup inside the script file, no problem at all. There is also one other issue I have noticed and that is the saving of the sound settings but I’m sure that will be solved by official release time. Other than that I have not come across any game play issues unlike others I have read over at Phoronix.com.
I have already gone through both game play tutorials and now playing one of the available maps (3 player map) on easy mode. Now I know, you are probably laughing that I chose easy but I must say, it doesn’t appear too easy to me, either that or I just plain out suck which would not surprise me to much since it has been a long time from when I last played StarCraft or WarCraft 2, two games that Oil-Rush game play sort of resembles. Another game Oil-Rush resembles is Onslaught in Unreal Tournament where you have to capture certain check points and wipe out your opponent.
Loading time on my system for this game with max out graphic settings was a total of 27.7 seconds from game launch to main menu and then 15 second load time for the current map I am playing. My FPS average starts off at 48fps and as more units appear on my screen, the fps drops to an average of around 28fps which is still really smooth game play.
I have also tried a second game map, this time a 1 on 1 map and found the easy level setting a little too easy compared to the one mentioned above but I still love this game. Update 03/05/11: I have now tried the campaign where you need to defend your self against wave after wave of assaults and I love it. Not sure how many waves I defended against but unlike other people, not one error has popped up while playing this campaign.
I feel that anyone who likes the onslaught game type from Unreal Tournament 2004/3 with the gathering feature seen in games like StarCraft and WarCraft may actually like Oil-Rush. Plus with it only costing $20 and you get access to the pre-releases allowing you to not only see the progress between now and June but also allowed to provide your feedback is damn good in my books.
Buy it now: https://store.unigine.com/ (Linux & Windows)
That’s right, the pre-ordering is now available for the new game Oil-Rush expecting to be officially launched come June 2011. When you pre-order you will receive early access to the game making you a real world beta tester because after all, no two gamers will have the exact same computer configuration.
I have already paid for my pre-copy but unfortunately I must have been one of the first because my download link still has not arrived in my e-mail or in the Avanagate My Account area. I have e-mailed Unigine about this and hopefully I will have my download link by morning so I can start playing it like everyone else is right now.
Once I get my hands on it, I will post an update to what I think of it. If you wish to pre-purchase Oil-Rush now, simply go to https://store.unigine.com/ and it will auto detect your operating system. If you are currently in Windows but is also a Linux user and want to show your support for Linux games then click on “choose a different platform” to select Linux.
