Solus Linux Review For Casual Users – For The Record

This Solus Review aims to go beyond a typical install and tour of the desktop. I ask the hard questions about what software is available, how it differs from ‘Buntu based distros and much, much more. (Article Below)

**UPDATES*** First off, I’m blind and at 10m3s, Steam is absolutely listed. Also, JP in the comments has the fix for PIA showing gibberish in the menu.

So I bought Earthworm Jim 1 & 2 on GOG. Here are my thoughts…

I would recommend you pick this up from GOG if you’re a fan of the series and you’re looking for a nostalgia fix. Earthworm Jim 2 could stand on its own and plays alright when compared to modern platformers. You can use modern controllers thanks to DOSbox (I played this with both a DualShock 4 and a Steam Controller), and there are few technical hurdles to clear.

Common questions:
What distro do you use?
On my office PC I use Ubuntu 17.10 with the stylish Pop! theme by System76.

On my Steam Machine I now run Ubuntu 16.04 with the Steam Compositor and nomodeswitch packages installed. (This is because later versions of Ubuntu have PIE enabled by default which prevents me from using Dolphin)

What do you use to edit your videos?
Audio editing: Ocenaudio
Video editing: KdenLive

What are your machines specs?
Steam Machine: Intel Core i7 at 3.8 GHz, Nvidia GTX 970 4GB, 12 GB RAM, Ubuntu 16.10 w/ Steam Compositor

Desktop: AMD FX 6300 at 3.5 GHz, Nvidia GTX 750 1GB, and 8 GB 1600 MHz RAM, Ubuntu 16.04 w/ GNOME 3 (not Ubuntu GNOME)
