Sept 15 #Linux Usage Numbers

Posted in Andy Rants by goodolandy
Sep 16 2015

For those new to my blog, I will be doing this twice a month, for the 1st and 15th of each month.

As a reminder, all percentages are taken from StatCounter.com who gather the stats from websites around the globe.  How many are Windows only related is anyone guess.

We had quite a few ups and downs in the percentages between September 1st and September 15th.  The biggest decrease is Falkland Islands who went from 13.36% to 0% further proving that developers should not believe what StatCounter provides as cold hard facts and instead start listening to their fans.

So who are the new top ten countries for Linux usage? (Up Down)

  1. Uruguay (12.62)
  2. Timor-Leste (9.28)
  3. Venezuela (5.81)
  4. Kiribati (4.63)
  5. Malta (4..62)
  6. Congo (4.59)
  7. Reunion (4.49)
  8. Holy See (4.2)
  9. Swaziland (3.66)
  10. Greece (3.37)

Now as with my previous posts, how does the new worldwide usage numbers look and how does that relate to possible income being lost because of developers not willing to develop for Linux PC?

The world usage based on ALL the numbers retrieved for every country listed on StatCounter is 1.12%.  When calculated towards the possible number of gamers based on each continent population taken from GeoHive, we get almost $105 million in sales each month based on games that have a $15/month subscription fee.  When calculated based on a $60 game, the possible earnings is almost $419 million.

If you are wondering how I get those numbers, simply refer to my August 15 usage post.  There you will find a complete break down on how the calculation is done.

Why #Canadians SHOULD Vote @JustinTrudeau – Pt4. #RealChange

Sep 10 2015

Welcome back to part 4 of my personal opinion on why Canadians should vote for Justin Trudeau.

In this post I am going to talk about Trudeau plan on cancelling tax breaks and benefits for the wealthy.  This should be another no brainer for Canadians, especially if you fall in to the low income bracket which should be most Canadians given how many jobs are lost each year to other countries…Thank you free trade!

Over the years, the wealthy have received tax breaks after tax breaks after tax breaks.  With all those breaks, where does the government look to recover that loss in income, from the low income earners whom are already struggling to get by each month.  Cost of rent these days are at least twice than what the average citizen can afford.  Those on government assistance are most at risk of having to live on the street or resort to illegal activity just so they can afford a roof over their head.

This is why cancelling tax breaks for the wealthy is much needed.

Come back tomorrow for part 5.

Why #Canadians SHOULD Vote @JustinTrudeau – Pt3. #RealChange

Sep 09 2015

Welcome back for part 3.  As already stated, this is simply my own personal opinion why Canadians should vote for Justin Trudeau.

Today reason is Trudeau stance on “Open Government”.  This should be a complete no brainer to every Canadian citizen.  Our government was setup for the people but how many times have citizens been consulted?  None that I recall but as I stated in part 1, I rarely pay any attention to politics because it is usually the same bullshit time and time again.  Always changes that help the rich and big business but nothing to help those that are the real workforce behind Canada, the low-mid income earners.

It is time that the government was more transparent to the people they are suppose to be serving, no matter of income.

Come back tomorrow for part 3.

This is just a simple and short game play video showing how the game runs on a PC running GNU/Linux. I am launching it from within Steam to help advertise the game to those in my friends list. Just wish Epic would make the game available through Steam Linux to make updating a lot easier than re-downloading the entire game for every new release.

Why #Canadians SHOULD Vote @JustinTrudeau – Pt2. #RealChange

Posted in Andy Recommends by goodolandy
Sep 08 2015

Welcome back for part 2 of my personal opinion on why Canadians should vote for Justin Trudeau.

I hear people say don’t vote for Mr. Trudeau because of his stance on legalizing marijuana. Do I support the smoking of drugs, hell no. I have never tried it nor do I understand why anyone would want to suck on something they just lit on fire. However, I am smart enough to do my own research rather than simply listen to whatever lies the media and a bunch of old farts like Harper are spewing.

According to Health Canada, cigarettes kill more than 230,000 Canadians every year and alcohol related deaths according to the 2014 Canadian Drug Summary was 8,103 in 2002. Note that Health Canada doesn’t seem to care about how many Canadians die each year from alcohol given that I was unable to find actual numbers in their yearly reports. Now when it comes to marijuana, the total deaths by this drug appears to be 0. There are no reports of anyone dieing from smoking marijuana, whether it is in Canada, United States or anywhere else in the world. So if we are going to allow cigarettes and alcohol which are known to kill Canadians, then we should allow the government to legalize marijuana. Let me once again state that I am against smoking ANYTHING! We should also not forget how much extra money the government will receive which in turn can be used to better our healthcare and education systems, something that has been on the decline for some time.

Some might say that Mulcair stated he is against people going to jail for possession of marijuana and that is true BUT he has never said it should be completely legalized.  In fact it seem strange to me that he made that statement right after a report was released showing that most Canadians are in favour of legalizing marijuana.

Now on top of the huge financial surplus Canada would end up with by legalizing marijuana, we also have to look at the health benefits for those that are suffering from illnesses which are better treated with marijuana.  Things like severe pain, seizures, and many other conditions.  Ask yourself, would you rather take six medications for multiples illnesses or just one?

Come back tomorrow for part 3.
