“When Cynthia Nixon announced her candidacy for governor of New York, a narrative quickly emerged. A Sex and the City actor would be running for one of the most powerful offices in the state on the platform of fixing the damn subways — and could very well become the first female, openly gay governor in the state’s history.
The New York Times said it; The Guardian said it; even Vox said it. The only problem with that narrative, though? Nixon isn’t, in fact, openly gay.

Nixon has been upfront about the fact that she identifies as being far more on the bisexual end of the spectrum — and also about how that fact often gets lost in favor of black-and-white proclamations about her sexuality.

When Nixon began dating Christine Marinoni in 2004 after dating a man for 15 years, it was largely treated as the coming out story of a woman who realized late in life that she’s a lesbian. But Nixon herself was always clear that her attraction to her ex-boyfriends was as real as hers to Marinoni, who is now her wife.”*

“Retired United States Army lieutenant colonel and Fox News contributor Ralph Peters recently severed ties with the network, which he accused on Tuesday of “wittingly harming our system of government for profit.”

In a lengthy email to his colleagues first obtained by BuzzFeed, the foreign-policy hawk argued that the cable news network had been transformed from a “legitimate and much-needed outlet for conservative voices” into a “propaganda machine for a destructive and ethically ruinous administration.”

“Four decades ago, I took an oath as a newly commissioned officer. I swore to ‘support and defend the Constitution,’ and that oath did not expire when I took off my uniform,” Peters wrote. “Today, I feel that Fox News is assaulting our constitutional order and the rule of law, while fostering corrosive and unjustified paranoia among viewers.””*

“A controversial Republican political hopeful in Maine has ended his campaign following widespread outrage after he slandered Parkland shooting massacre survivor Emma Gonzalez as a “skinhead lesbian” the Sun Journal reported Friday.

“It’s the best thing for everybody,” Gibson said.

“There is nothing about this skinhead lesbian that impresses me and there is nothing that she has to say unless you’re a frothing at the mouth moonbat,” Gibson wrote on Twitter, before “protecting” his account.

Gibson also attacked Parkland student David Hogg as “a bald faced liar” in another tweet. “Hogg doesn’t get a pass when he blatantly lies.”

On Friday, having lost a such a public feud to two Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School students, Gibson withdrew from the race.
“I am not walking away with my head hung low,” he claimed. “I am walking away with my head held high.””*

“Two teens at a Maryland high school were shot Tuesday after another student opened fire in the hallway just before the start of classes, authorities said.

The shooter — identified as Austin Wyatt Rollins, 17 — was injured and taken to the hospital, where he died, St. Mary’s County Sheriff Tim Cameron said at a news conference.

Great Mills High School remained on lockdown for some time after, but the shooting was “contained” when a school resource officer “engaged” the gunman, Cameron said.

The chaos unfolded at 7:55 a.m. ET when police say Rollins walked into the 1,600-student school and fired a round from a Glock semiautomatic handgun at a 16-year-old female student, also hitting a 14-year-old male.

The school resource officer — St. Mary’s County sheriff’s Deputy Blaine Gaskill — was alerted to the gunfire and confronted the gunman in less than a minute, according to Cameron.

Gaskill “fired at the shooter almost simultaneously as the shooter fired,” Cameron said, without detailing how the gunman was injured. The officer was not wounded.

“This is your worst nightmare,” Cameron added.”*

“AUSTIN/SCHERTZ, Texas (Reuters) – A package bomb blew up at a FedEx distribution center near San Antonio on Tuesday, the fifth in a series of attacks that have rocked Texas this month and left baffled investigators searching for what they suspect is a serial bomber.

The package filled with nails and metal shrapnel was mailed from Austin to another address in Austin and passed through a sorting center in Schertz, about 65 miles (105 km) away, when it exploded on a conveyer belt, knocking a female employee off her feet, officials said.
It was the fifth of a series in explosions in Texas in the past 18 days that have killed two people, injured others, and left hundreds of federal and local investigators scrambling to find the perpetrator and a motive.”*

“NEWS THAT CAMBRIDGE Analytica CEO Alexander Nix approached Wikileaks founder Julian Assange last year to exploit Hillary Clinton’s private emails has amplified questions about Cambridge’s role in President Trump’s 2016 campaign.

Shortly after The Daily Beast reported Nix’s contact with Assange Wednesday, the Trump campaign’s executive director sought to downplay Cambridge’s role. Michael Glassner said in a statement that the Republican National Committee was the campaign’s primary source of voter data. “Any claims that voter data from any other source played a key role in the victory are false,” Michael Glassner wrote. The statement did not respond to reporting in WIREDand elsewhere revealing a close relationship between the Trump campaign and Cambridge staffers. Cambridge did not respond to WIRED’s request for comment.
