This is the latest in my rambing series, where I just turn on the camera and talk to you about life, the universe, and things that are interseting to me. IN this episode I talk about my divorce and it finally being over, and how its impacted my life and my career in the past few months as well as how I plan to recover from it in the future.
Technology as religion. More specifically: Individual pieces of computer tech treated as infallible religion. Do we, as computer nerds, have specific bits of code that are treated as “Sacred Cows?” You bet we do. And it’s pretty stupid.

On Monday morning I said publishers were going to embrace “live services” as their new flavor in 2018.
That afternoon, Ubisoft told its investors how “live services” are their new flavor in 2018. In fact, they seem disinterested in games entirely… at least as we know them.
Like clockwork, folks. These companies can be predicted like clockwork.

Dynasty Warriors 9 is an absolute mistake. The open world actively ruins the flow of the game, the new combat system is a homogenizing step back, and as for what they DID to Zhang He…
Make no mistake about it, this is the worst Dynasty Warriors game of them all, at least as far as mainline entries go.
HTTPS, the “secure” form of HTTP, is dangerous. Seriously. That may be an unpopular position, but there are some critical issues with HTTPS — and the fact that it is being forced on all website operators — that should raise everyone’s eyebrows. Poor design. NSA backdoors. Serious, freaky problems.

There is a constant problem plaguing the game industry, if its spokespeople are to be believed. Games cost $60, and that price doesn’t work anymore!
Weirdly enough, The Jimquisition agrees with this assessment. “AAA” games should indeed not cost $60 anymore, and they most certainly have outgrown it.

What distro do you use?
On my office PC I use Ubuntu 17.10 with the stylish Pop! theme by System76.
On my Steam Machine I now run Ubuntu 16.04 with the Steam Compositor and nomodeswitch packages installed. (This is because later versions of Ubuntu have PIE enabled by default which prevents me from using Dolphin)
